Nicole reports from Colombia

In 2023, Nicole returned to her old South American stomping grounds to co-lead a trip for young journalists to Colombia. For the association journalists.network, Nicole and her colleagues Antonia Schaefer and Jannis Carmesin organized a trip for a dozen aspiring foreign correspondents, aimed at sharing their insights into the country’s complex present, past and future.

During the trip, Nicole and Antonia filmed a documentary about the Siloé slum in the city of Cali and the people working to improve the barrio’s tarnished reputation. They shot and edited the piece themselves and adapted it from English into German and Spanish.

Individually, Nicole also worked with DW’s Latin America department to report on inventive ways of using invasive plant species to clean polluted water in rural areas of Colombia. Her piece ran on the show “Eco Latam” and can be watched here.
